Meet our Counselors!

Nathan Graham MDiv, MA, ALC, NCC
Nathan has been working as a counselor, teacher, and pastor in the Birmingham area for the past decade and is tremendously enthusiastic about the opportunity to begin providing clinical mental health services on campus at Valleydale Church. He strives to show up for each guest in therapy with humility and compassion and would consider it a great honor to hear your story.

Nathan works primarily with older adolescents and adults, focusing on themes of freedom, peace, and wholeness, or what the biblical authors called shalom. Nathan’s formal degree training comes from Samford, UAB, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been married to Jenna for 7 years, and the couple welcomed their first child this September, a baby girl named Rose.

Tara Vines

Tara’s passion and vision for her counseling ministry is to glorify the Lord and assist children and teens in a discovery of their worth and identity in Christ. Tara believes that every child is a gift and understands that overcoming personal obstacles is sometimes a barrier for experiencing true joy for many children, teens and families.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Tara uses her faith in Christ, her background of over 25 years of serving children, educational experiences from Auburn and UAB, as well as personal life experiences to encourage, mentor, and counsel children. She is dedicated to helping parents understand their child’s behaviors and directing them with parenting strategies.

Tara believes that connection and felt safety are keys to success and she utilizes this in her child-centered approach to counseling. She enjoys using Animal Assisted Therapy with her trained goldendoodle, Ruthie, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Strategies, and creative therapies including, but not limited to, play therapy, therapy with art, and walk and talk therapy.

Tara enjoys working with children ages 4-13 and will see teens on a case-by-case basis. She treats issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and trauma, ADHD and school issues, as well as emotional regulation and other behavioral challenges.

Tara met and married her husband Jeff at Valleydale Church in 2001. They have 2 adult daughters and a teenage son. They have served faithfully over the years individually and as a family. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, needlework and reading.
